Announcements for Sunday, April 21, 2024

Today, the Fruit of the Spirit Ministry is hosting its third annual celebration.

The celebration theme is “The Heart of Christian Living: Walk by the Spirit…led by the Spirit…Live by the Spirit.” Galatians 5:16,18 and 25. Rev. Dr. Cheryl Coleman Hall is the preacher for the worship service. Immediately after the service, the congregation will move to the Brooks Chapel to rededicate the recently renovated space. A reception will follow in the Wyatt A. James Fellowship Hall. For more information on the ministry, click here.

You are invited to the Rededication Ceremony for the Brooks Chapel today after worship service. The chapel, named for legendary Nineteenth Street pastor Rev. Dr. Walter Henderson Brooks, has recently undergone renovations and is reopening for special meetings, weddings, and other programs.

Immediately after the conclusion of the Fruit of the Spirit Sunday worship service, the congregation will proceed from the sanctuary to the chapel, using the breezeway leading to the church offices.

Deaconess Kathryn Brooks, whose husband, the late Elmer T. Brooks, was a grandson of Rev. Brooks, will cut the ribbon at the front of the chapel doors. The ceremony will include a presentation from Trustee Charlie Sprow, chair of the Chapel Committee that managed the renovations, and remarks from Deaconess Brooks. In addition, a biography will be distributed commemorating the history, life, and service rendered by Rev. Brooks, our pastor for 63 years, beginning in 1882.

After the rededication ceremony, there will be a reception in the Wyatt A. James Fellowship Hall.
All are encouraged to attend.

Volunteers urgently wanted to help maintain the prayer garden. Basic gardening skills are needed. Community service hours are available to youth volunteers. Stop by the Garden Club table today, in the fellowship hall.

If you have pre-purchased the book or workbook, “My Body is Special” by Rev. Dr. LaKeesha Walrond, you may see Rev. Robin Turner to pick up your copy today. There also will be a limited number of the signed hard-copy books available for purchase in the fellowship hall after the rededication of the Brooks Chapel. This is a great resource for building girls’ confidence and safety.

The Global Observance of Earth Day is tomorrow, April 22. It is a reminder of “the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability, encouraging us to come together and take action for a healthier planet and brighter future.”
