Men’s Ministry

Mission
To develop men of Christian character, to encourage and provide opportunities for men to apply their skills and talents, and to use Godly men as a witness and encouragement to others.

Activities: The major planned activity for 2021 was a church cleanup, inside and outside of the facility. A cookout set up by Deacon Howard Smith in conjunction with cleanup day was attended by 30 men of Nineteenth Street. During this COVID-19 period, men of the church continued to stay in touch with the sick and shut-in via calls, cards and visits. Also, a breakfast at the Golden Corral to fellowship with Pastor Roberts was very successful. On Men’s Day, Sunday June 27, 2021 the ministry presented its President’s Award to Roman Holton and Bradford Ellison.

Men’s Ministry Bowling Fellowship – 2019

History: The Men’s Ministry has its roots in the Men’s Club. Brothers made themselves available for the care of the church grounds and for other odd jobs that required attention. It grew into a fellowship manned by church leaders and laymen alike. According to research for the church’s 180th anniversary, the NSBC Men’s Club was organized on March 4, 1910.  Many years later, Rev. Jerry C. Cheatham Jr. formed a men’s ministry during the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Derrick Harkins. That time saw the birth of Manhood Training and the President’s Award recognizing brothers who displayed outstanding service. Trustee Charles Hall presided over the ministry during the adoption of its mission. Deacon Howard Smith unified the Men’s Club and The Men’s Ministry under the name “The Men’s Ministry.”

Opportunities: Almost every major event and any time during the High Holy Days present the men with opportunities to serve the church. Please contact Charlie Sprow Jr. or the church office to volunteer your time to assist with any of the Men’s Ministry projects.
